Download Google Chrome

September 2nd, 2008 Posted in General

On my desktop, I have this nice little triangle setup of all my files. Now, within this finely organized shape, I normally have 3 different browser shortcuts. Those are IE (least used), Firefox, and Opera (my favorite one). Today, Google Chrome was released, and as of this moment, Internet Explorer no longer exists on my desktop. It’s still in my start menu, so if I need it to check a few modifications, I will, but I think I may actually use Chrome more often than I would IE. I’m writing this post using Chrome, actually. Still a few bugs to work out, but for now it’s ok for the stage it’s at.

I could definitely see Google using the new browser to survey and document site traffic somewhere down the road, in a way similar to Alexa’s toolbar system, but you never do know. It may even end up contributing to your rankings in the search engines, taking into account how many users visit which websites. Probably unlikely for now, but the way it’s being promoted as the IE destroyer, in an attempt to basically take over the browser wars, it’s not impossible.

Anyway, have fun with Chrome. Just one more tool to use.

Note: I do not have any dislike toward Microsoft. On the flipside of things, I actually hope that they do buy out Yahoo’s advertising platform at some point so that Google at least has some major competition in the online advertising area. I just enjoy watching the competition between these two, overall, as I find that it potentially brings more value to all of us.
