NBA Playoffs 2008 Part 1
It’s about time. After all of the developments of the regular season, the playoffs are finally here. This is where a team truly begins to understand their depth and status in the league.
In the west, we have what might be the most competitive and unpredictable group of series in NBA Playoff history. Every team entering the playoffs out there, has at least 50 wins, and only 7 wins separate the top seed from the eighth. I only expect to see some great basketball come out of the west during this stretch. For the record, I would like to see the Lakers make it out.
As for the east, Boston Celtics … Detroit Pistons. That’s really all that it comes down to. Although, if the Wizards make it past the Cavs (which they can), they do have 3 consecutive wins over the Boston Celtics that makes the series a little interesting. But that’s jumping the gun, and we don’t want to do that.
Here is what tomorrow’s schedule looks like:
Washington @ Cleveland 12:30pm Eastern ESPN
This is where all the trash talk takes a back seat, and the Washington Wizards get a chance to put up or shut up. We’ve seen the way in which Lebron has reacted to “the haters” this season. This series is definitely one to watch.
Phoenix @ San Antonio 3:00pm Eastern ABC
A renewed rivalry. Lots of Phoenix fans thought that they would’ve made it to the finals had it not been for the suspension of Amare Stoudemire last year. They may be right, they may be wrong. This is also a put or shut up series. Since the acquisition of Shaquille O’neal, the Phoenix Suns have defeated the San Antonio Spurs in their last two games with eachother. They got Shaquille O’neal exactly for this reason, to defeat the Spurs. Let’s see if the defending champion Spurs can prove (again) why they walked away with that trophy last year.
Dallas @ New Orleans 7:00pm Eastern ESPN
They say the New Orleans Hornets are too young and inexperienced, and that the Dallas Mavericks, with Jason Kidd are going to win this series. They’ll swear that Chris Paul is in the MVP discussion but still, no one has faith in the New Orleans Hornets. I guess we’ll just have to see what happens with this series. If the Hornets do win, I don’t see anyone having faith in them to win the second round either.
Utah @ Houston 9:30pm Eastern ESPN
Sadly, Tracy McGrady still hasn’t won a single playoff series in his entire career. He is currently tagged as the best player in the NBA to never make it through to round 2. I don’t see this being the year, but as I said before, anything is possible in the west.
I’ll definitely be watching every one of these games and enjoying the NBA for what it has to offer during the post-season.
